Threats Through Open Sourced Information: Is Your System Safe from Cyber Attacks? Think Again!

As departments and organizations make use of the web to direct information to the public domain may it be to generate awareness, to enhance brand recognition or to build relationships with stakeholders, they become expose to threats from skilled malware practitioners. The latter make use of easy access to public domain information as a backdoor entry into systems.

Once the initial barrier is broken, the skilled malware practitioners will craft and leave behind a unique backdoor key into a system. In time, the key can be used to retrieve sensitive information or to systematically create havoc with a system. These quasi-stealth attacks leave very little traces of criminal actions.

Given that governments in a democratic environment and corporations in a competitive environment cannot hide in a deep underground bunker with seal doors, our moderator will explore with guests panelist how organization can face these types of threats. They will talk of strategies and prevention. And, you will learn how to minimize the potential of a cyber attack on your organization.

Tiago Alves de Jesus, i/c Cyber Unit, National Security Criminal Operations, (NSCO); National Security Criminal Investigation (NSCI); and Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)
