Manitoba’s Commitment to Modernizing Government

The Manitoba government is committed to continuously improving the way it operates and delivers services. Modernizing government has paved the way for:

  • improved service delivery for citizens and businesses
  • greater control and management of public resources
  • increased capacity of our civil service

The Manitoba government continues to transform internal processes, delivering greater efficiencies and innovations directly or through the development of ICT methods and tools. Consider a few of our recent success stories:

Enabling collaboration through innovation, ICT planning and governance

  • Effective governance reporting councils and proven project management and organizational change management methods are used on all ICT projects.
  • Application Portfolio Management Initiative (APMI) strategically determines future application investment decisions and management of the application life cycle.

Extending the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution capabilities across the enterprise

  • Through an online self-serve portal, employers and citizens can create a profile, apply, register and pay online.
  • Through a new client relationship management (CRM) system, employees can manage interactions with clients to meet or exceed their service expectations.
  • Through a single integrated automated system, student loan fund disbursement and student loan payment collection has been streamlined, providing the provincial government with a program design to manage the many grant-issuing programs pattern it offers.

Completing the service loop through innovative online service offerings

  • Canada’s first province-wide, online child-care registry helps families find and apply for licensed child care.
  • A first-in-Canada online tool helps doctors quickly find the right specialist for their patients, improving service delivery and reducing wait times.

Reducing risk and enabling a more responsive infrastructure to support innovation

  • Through our server consolidation efforts, the government stabilized the existing server environment and physically co-located the servers to a central location, resulting in better manageability, reduced costs, and reduced risk of hardware failure.
  • Centrally managed ICT services provide the Manitoba government with a standardized infrastructure that spans network, desktop and hosting, providing a strategic platform for ERP, security, online services, APMI and mobility and other ICT initiatives.
