For the IT/IM professional, the role of the CIO is to enable better business decisions, improve services, and unlock value in the organization. The morning session will focus on three main features of modern leadership: Strategic Thinking, Management Excellence and Engagement. Leadership Visioning in the Government of Canada
Speaker: Chuck Henry, Federal CTO and Senior Director, Information Technology Division, Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat

Treasury Board Secretariat has undertaken a process to develop a vision for IM/IT services in government in the year 2020. The Board has surveyed the community to identify community concerns and ideas for input into the visioning process. Chuck Henry will provide an overview of the visioning process as well as his remarks on the challenges facing CIOs in government enterprises. Mr. Henry is the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for the Government of Canada; his position is within CIO Branch of the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat. In this role he sets overall policy direction for the Government of Canada for the Management of IT and provides technology guidance to all IT organizations within the Government of Canada. Prior to joining the Treasury Board, Mr. Henry ran an independent consulting firm specializing in IT strategy and planning. His formative development and training came from a thirty year career at IBM designing, implementing and consolidating large-scale systems.

Like any enterprise, government departments must be conscious of balancing innovation and transparency, but managing change in government enterprises can be often layered with policy choices, legacy technologies and financial constraints that are beyond the control of most IT organizations.
