2012 ThemeCollaborating & Innovating – Making a Difference for CanadiansAs GTEC marks its 20th anniversary, governments are facing an environment of unprecedented change. The pressure to do more with less continues and the need to collaborate and innovate has never been more important. Within the theme, Collaborating & Innovating – Making a Difference for Canadians, GTEC 2012 participants will collaborate and participate in discussions on: Pursuing the principles of open government as well as open data and transparency:Sharing and mining data will help find answers and identify solutions/approaches to address the many complex challenges facing government today. What information tools, toolkits, practices need to be pursued? Exploring and examining processes and practices that support innovation while reducing costs:Becoming more nimble and more flexible to respond to citizens’ expectations is necessary. How can innovation and cost reduction co-exist? Comparing Technology & Tools – past, present and future:GTEC is celebrating its 20th anniversary and the milestone presents an opportunity to take a look back on the evolution of technology over the past 20 years and imagine what it will look like moving forward. What is the art of the possible and what does truly innovative government service delivery look like? Valuing People:Placing an emphasis on the people and how organizations and individuals are stepping up to the change is necessary. Navigating the expectation rift between age groups - the changing demographics in the public service and the public they serve - offers an opportunity to build on the experience and leverage the new perspectives and modalities for moving forward. Enabling the Organizational and Policy Infrastructure/Foundation:What does the IM and IT future look like in a shared services environment? What will continue within specific departmental structures vs. those that will be provided in a shared environment? What clusters will emerge and how will they work together? GTEC 2012 plans to explore the foregoing in the course of participant interactive seminars, workshops, concurrent sessions, panel discussions, keynote addresses as well as networking on the exhibition floor. In keeping with the GTEC tradition, the Call for Papers process welcomes submissions on the foregoing. Please note that these topic areas are offered as guidance and not intended to be exhaustive. Abstracts that are oriented toward best practice and practical approaches are recommended. |
