CIO BootCamp

October 4, 2010 -- Full Day

The CIO BootCamp at GTEC is designed to pair emerging CIO candidates with existing CIOs for a day of education, mentoring and collaboration. Now in its fourth year, the CIO BootCamp is an industry-government collaboration that brings best of breed thinking to public servants who want to hold IT/IM's top job.

About the 2010 BootCamp Program:

Be more strategic. It's a mantra chief information officers (CIOs) have heard repeatedly for more than a decade from the CEO, the chief financial officer (CFO), and other business colleagues as well as analysts, consultants, and the media. Easy to say, but hard to define or do.

The 2010 CIO BootCamp Agenda will include three main learning segments:

1. Morning Sessions -- Exploring the Situational CIO
The 2010 program will include scene setting presentations on some of the key aspects of the Situational CIO, delivered by thought leaders from PricewaterhouseCoopers, TELUS and selected subject matter experts. The morning sessions include:

  • Presentation: The three hats of the Situational CIO
  • Presentation: IT Sourcing and Operations
  • World Café: table work with public and private sector CIO mentors
  • Report back and discussion

Following the presentations, a group of CIOs will join the tables for a World Café session where issues are discussed by delegates and our CIO mentors.

2. Lunch and Networking with CIO Mentors
Networking is crucial to mentoring and peer-to-peer collaboration. Over lunch, we'll introduce ideas to help you "work the room", meet your peers and build your network of like-minded professionals.

3. Afternoon Sessions -- Charting a Course to the CIO Role
The afternoon session will take a personal approach to positioning you as a future CIO, including a self assessment and presentations by key organizations that can help you along your path to becoming a CIO. Following on a lead-off session by a prominent Canadian Public Sector CIO, delegates will hear from key federal organizations with mandates for professional and community development. At the end of the CIO BootCamp, you will leave with a better understanding of where you are positioned on your path to becoming a CIO, and you'll be equipped with the resources you need to advance your professional goals.
