Open Text,™ a Canadian company, is the world's largest independent provider of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) software and has been a significant sponsor of GTEC for several years. Recently, Open Text unveiled its Government 2.0 strategy, which is designed to help governments transform their workplaces with powerful social computing tools. Open Text is taking its collaboration and Web solutions offerings to a new level, providing 2.0 capabilities—wikis, forums, blogs, tagging, moderation, communities, and real-time collaboration—that are persuasive, productive, and integrated into business processes, while still respecting compliance initiatives. With a recently renewed ECM solutions contract between Open Text and the Government of Canada, Open Text leverages its existing Web 2.0 solutions based on its market-leading Web content management offering and provides a comprehensive set of new solutions to better address the broad range of 2.0 requirements. These solutions are aimed at collaboration and social computing requirements behind the firewall as a natural extension of government workers’ current ECM initiatives (ensuring a tight link to existing content and processes), as well as Web 2.0 enablement of public Websites, intranets, and extranets. With its Government 2.0 strategy, Open Text is optimally positioned to deliver on the most challenging government workplace issues:
- Open Text can assist governments to consolidate their implicit knowledge into structured workflow, manage content repositories, and preserve information that would otherwise be lost with the demographic shift in government workers.
- Open Text can help build an information management infrastructure to support the flood of electronic communication that new e-government initiatives will encourage. Open Text’s records management capability has cutting edge export and transfer capabilities for long-term preservation of electronic information, allowing agencies to hand off inactive content to federal archives in accordance with law or best practices.
- Open Text can provide the content management, search, reporting, and workflow tools to assist in the transition stages that will be seen with the increasing move to centralization of government services in many jurisdictions.
