Are you CIO material?

The CIO Boot Camp is not for the faint of heart! Spend a full day with leading CIOs for a fast-paced work out that will mentor you through the hottest issues a CIO must face. Get ready to think like a CIO and learn from people in IT/IM’s top job.

If you have the right stuff, register now!

GTEC is a world class gathering of government service delivery professionals, and our "Government 2.0" conference is geared to discuss how web 2.0 and social computing technologies are changing the nature of public services. GTEC goes beyond theoretical discussions of "concepts" to explore projects and programs "in action" today.

Within the week of GTEC, we will hold several professional development programs: a large Government 2.0 conference, industry-lead workshops alongside our GTEC Showcase, a series of Executive Roundtables and the CIO Boot Camp. The CIO Boot Camp is a mentoring and education event for public sector IT and IM professionals – and our audience profile is targeted to next generation CIOs. Through seminars and working sessions, this event will educate professionals on "what it takes" to be a successful CIO. We will explore the profile of an ideal CIO and discuss the common challenges all CIOs face regardless of their jurisdiction.

The CIO Boot Camp takes place on Monday, October 27 when there are no other programs for delegates. This is a full-day program for up to 120 people. The Boot Camp develops future leaders by profiling the top job in IT/IM. As such, we split the program into two major categories:

  1. The role of the CIO: What does a CIO do and what are the requirements of this key role within a public sector organization. This part of the program looks at the "soft" side of the CIO role (what’s in the job description): profiling the ideal CIO, discussing the CIO’s network and partners in service delivery; and evaluating the skills/knowledge requirements of the role. Part 1 will help delegates self-assess their own suitability for the role of CIO.
  2. Priority Issues facing the CIO: There are a myriad of issues facing the CIO, and not all of them are IT or IM driven. Workforce, technology, political and leadership issues make the tough task of implementing and maintaining service delivery systems even more difficult. This part of the Boot Camp program looks at the "hard" side (what’s not in the job description) of the CIO role: IT/IM Governance, the importance of identity and access management, government’s back office solutions, and service delivery models for citizen-centered services in a web 2.0 world.
