Ottawa, Ontario – Wednesday, June 27, 2007 – GTEC 2007 today announced that Mr. Don Tapscott, co-author of bestselling book, “Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything”, will keynote the afternoon session on the second day of the conference this year.
Mr. Tapscott’s keynote address is scheduled for Tuesday, October 16 from 1:45 to 2:30pm ET in the Confederation Ballroom I of the Westin Hotel, and is entitled “Harnessing the Power of Mass Collaboration”. The presentation will focus how the corporation may be going through the biggest change in its short history – ‘The Enterprise 2.0’, which aligns with GTEC’s theme this year, Government 2.0.
As Tapscott explains, “True -- social networking is exploding. Myspace is growing at 300,000 new registrants per day and is on track to one billion members. There is a new blog every second of the day. Facebook has signed up 85% of all college students. And Time Magazine chose YOU - the online collaborator as The Person of the Year.
That was so 2006! The smartest managers already know that so-called ‘user generated media’ and ‘social networking’ are really just the tip of an iceberg. Rather, nothing less than a new mode of production is in the making.
Thanks to the internet and a new generation of users, companies are beginning to conceive, design, develop, and distribute products and services in profoundly new ways. The old notion that you have to attract, develop, and retain the best and brightest inside your corporate boundaries is becoming null. With costs of collaboration falling precipitously, companies can increasingly source ideas, innovations, and uniquely qualified minds from a vast global pool of talent.”
“The reality of Enterprise 2.0 has also come to Governments at all levels, and Mr. Tapscott’s keynote is a perfect complement to our theme this year,” said Kevin d'Entremont, Executive Director of GTEC 2007. “We are excited to have Mr. Tapscott join us and provide some fascinating ideas and challenge the audience look at collaboration in a whole new way.”
