Ottawa, Ont. (Feb. 25, 2007) - GTEC Week (The Government Technology Exhibition and Conference) and CATAAlliance (Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance) announced today a partnership between the two organizations that aims to strengthen Canada's CIO community through a joint program of education, research and events networking.
The program will culminate on October 15-17 at Government IT's Main Event, the 15th Annual GTEC Week 2007. GTEC is a week-long meeting of government and the IT industry. The event includes a major exhibition of IT solutions, an international delegates program, a professional development conference and a national awards program and gala for IT in government.
Kevin d'Entremont, Executive Director for GTEC and CATAAlliance Director said, "The role of the CIO is an integral and pervasive one in most organizations; almost every employee is touched in one way or another by the CIO's performance."
He added, "CATAAlliance and GTEC Week will co-host a program geared to mentoring the next generation CIOs as part of GTEC Week. The program will be an extension of the CIO Bootcamps run by GTEC's sister event INTEROP, and will consist of best practice educational sessions by Canadian public and private sector CIOs. Together, our goal is to build a program that supports the public sector value chain by providing value-added education to IT professionals who aspire to be IT leaders."
Working with industry and government partners, GTEC and CATAAlliance are planning, among other things, to:
- Host community building events across Canada and through ICT webinars;
- Undertake collaborative Surveys and research to help create best practice management, a mutual interest to both private and public organizations; and,
- Host a CIO Boot camp at GTEC 2007, focusing on leadership imperatives, such as driving innovation while managing costs, proving the strategic value of IT and managing CXO expectations;
CATAAlliance has been a longstanding partner in the development and promotion of GTEC Week, since the event's inception 15 years ago. An integral part of CATAAlliance's participation in the event each year is the support it lends to evaluation of nominations for GTECs prized Distinction Awards for Excellence in the application of IT in government. The Distinction Awards are championed and managed by SCOAP, a CATAAlliance partner.
This not the first time that CATAAlliance has joined forces with GTEC. In 2006, CATAAlliance in conjunction with GTEC week developed a venue for the CATA membership and invited business leaders to meet with executives attending from 50 countries, senior trade and investment officials. The focus was Global Trends, the New Flat World, and Public Sector-Private Sector partnerships. In 2005, both organizations co developed a special Trade Show and seminar on advanced security, attended by a cross section of public and private sector delegates. GTEC also utilizes the SCOAP, a division of CATAAlliance adjudication methodology for selecting the federal government Distinction Awards.
