GTEC celebrated its 14th year in 2006, with the theme “Enterprise Transition: Moving to Shared Services”

Presentation highlights included:

  • Honorable Michael M. Fortier, Minister of Public Works and Government Services Canada, delivered the Welcoming Address
  • The CIO, Government of Canada, Ken Cochrane, delivered a Keynote Address, titled “The Evolving Role of the Federal CIO”
  • Special presentations from Showcase Country Republic of Korea and Showcase Province British Columbia.

GTEC 2006 was once again a success, as indicated by the following highlights:

  • Total of 7,100 public and private sector individuals participated in various elements of the event
  • 95% of attendees rated the show “good” to “excellent”.
  • International recognition and support of GTEC was reconfirmed with the participation of 48 countries in the event. The Canada School of Public Service once again sponsored delegates from Africa to attend this year's conference.

Professional Development Forum

  • Approx 1100 attendees participated in the conference program
  • The PDF was comprised of five Keynotes, 15 Special Presentations, over 50 individual educational sessions.
  • 48% of conference registrants attended 6 or more sessions.
  • 65% of registrants who responded to the survey indicated they would attend the PDF in 2007.
  • A Luncheon Keynote was delivered by Diana Swain on “Canada Now: Who We are and What We Can Be”
  • Mark Sutcliffe, Executive Editor, Ottawa Citizen Moderated a Keynote Industry Panel discussion entitled “2020 Vision: The Future Shape of IT in Government." The panel included two IT Industry Leaders (MTS Allstream and TELUS) as well as the Chief Architect, Treasury Board of Canada, Secretariat.
  • Borys Koba was the moderator of an informative Keynote Panel discussion which included participation from Microsoft, Oracle, CA and Cognos entitled “The Future of Technology in Government: Maximizing the Value of the IT Investment”.

Distinction Awards Program and Gala

  • 88 highly qualified nominations were received from federal, provincial and municipal governments for the Distinction Awards 2006, and a total of 28 Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals were awarded.
  • Five separate judging committees convened to ensure that the nominations are evaluated by credible representatives from the jurisdictions involved.
  • Over 550 guests attended the spectacular Distinction Awards Gala at the Museum of Civilization in Gatineau,Quebec.
  • Opening and closing remarks were delivered by Mr. Pierre Poilievre and Ms. Linda Lizotte-MacPherson respectively.
  • Jessica Holmes was the popular Master of Ceremonies for the evening, and guests were entertained by the Quebec Russian Bar Trio.
  • The Distinction Awards Gala was webcast live, and rebroadcast on Rogers Television Channel 22 on Sunday, November 12, 2006.

GTEC Exhibition

  • Approx 7,100 visitors attended the two-day GTEC Exhibition.
  • 30% of attendees surveyed had never attended GTEC before.
  • 80% of attendees surveyed visited the event website prior to the event and 75% registered online
  • 87% of attendees surveyed rated GTEC "Positive" to “Very Positive”, with 23% rating it “Very Positive”.
  • 74% of attendees came to see the latest products and services in the marketplace.
  • 88% of attendees believe that GTEC is important in helping them find solutions to their IT challenges.
